Before we talk about the features of iPhone3G, lets see on its specification:

Size and Weight
Height: 4.5 inches (115.5 mm)
Width: 2.4 inches (62.1 mm)
Depth: 0.48 inch (12.3 mm)
Weight: 4.7 ounces (133 grams)

As a handphone, 12.3mm can be considered as a slim handphone and its weight, 133g is a bit heavy for a mobilephone user, especially for ladies but if this compare to any other smartphone like PDA, N95, its weight can be considered acceptable.

Display:
3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display with 480-by-320-pixel resolution at 163 ppi

3.5 inch is a largest handphone screen among all the handphone models and its come with a high resolution, 480x320 which can give you a much clearer and detail screen view. But the fingerprint cannot be avoidable due to the large touch screen.

Capacity:
8GB and 16 GB flash memory with no any external memory slot available.
8 and 16GB for a mobilephone can be considered enough for all mobilephone users, hopefully because it cannot added by any memory card.

Cellular & Wireless:
UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)
Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

It comes with 2.5G(EDGE), 3G(3.5G(HSDPA) supported with max speed can go up to 3.6Mbps) and Wi-Fi solution. For data transfering, I am really sorry to tell you about this, its bluetooth is CANNOT use for data transfering but it is just use for stereo bluetooth headset. Don't even think about infrared. So the only solution for you to transfer and sync all the information to your iPhone is... not only the Dock Connector to USB Cable, you also need iTunes to sync all the videos, musics, photos, contacts, bookmarks........ into your iPhone, no matter you are using MAC or WINDOW.

Power and Battery:
Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery
Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter
Talk time: Up to 5 hours on 3G and up to 10 hours on 2G
Standby time: Up to 300 hours
Internet use: Up to 5 hours on 3G and up to 6 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 7 hours
Audio playback: Up to 24 hours

The overall endurance of iPhone battery is consider acceptable for such a great function handphone especially for the audio can be playback until 24 hours. It is really amazing but... sorry for those iPhone users, the battery is BUILT-IN. Built-in means you can't change the battery when the battery is down. So how to solve your iPhone's battery if it is spoiled? Only one way out for this problem, send it back to Apple service centre.

Sensors:
Accelerometer: it helps to change the screen view between portrait and landscape according to how you are holding it.
Ambient light sensor: If you are a nokia user or you used any N-series of Nokia mobilephone before, I think this won't be too new for you. This will help to maintance the brightness of your screen panel according to your environment.
NEW feature==> Proximity sensor: When you lift iPhone to your ear, the proximity sensor immediately turns off the display to save power and prevent inadvertent touches.

Camera:
2.0Megapixels

About camera, nowadays all of the mobilephone companies already came out those mobilephone with 5Megapixels camera but why iPhone 3G still stick on 2M, same as iPhone? And the more annoying problem is it cannot capture video. How can a camera can't capture a video? But it also depends on user requirement. If you doesn't really care about for the capturing video function, it is all up to you. Or maybe the video recording can be done through 3rd party application. Although iPhone 3G supports 3G features but not for video calling because it doesn't built-in a camera in front of the phone. Don't say you didn't notice about it when you are buying it.

GPS:
Assisted GPS supported, generally abbreviated as A-GPS, enhances the startup performance of a GPS satellite-based positioning system. It is used extensively with GPS-capable cellular phones as its development was accelerated by the U.S.

Audio:
Frequency response: 20Hz to 20,000Hz
Audio formats supported: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
User-configurable maximum volume limit

You can enjoy the music up to 24 hours non-stop playing. Frequency response is just fine for all audio but where is WMA? But this time, iPhone 3G is built-in 3.5mm headphone jack so you can connect any kind of headphone to it. Great improvement.

Video:
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

Language support:
Language support for English, French, German, Japanese, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian, and Polish
International keyboard and dictionary support for English (U.S.), English (UK), French (France), French (Canada), German, Japanese, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese (Portugal), Portuguese (Brazil), Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Korean (no dictionary), Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian, and Polish

For Asian, Chinese and Japanese supported is a great news for those Asians are going to buy or considering to buy a iPhone. You can just simply use your finger to write Chinese words and Japanese words. It will be easier than keyboard to type in the words and for those don't know how to use keyboard to type chinese words. This can be a good way to key in Chinese words.

After these explaination, do you feel iPhone 3G is suit for you? or still cannot decide yet? Don't worry, after we go through the hardware specification, the study on software features will be list out as soon as possible. Just stay tuned...

Make a right choice,
Do the right thing,
